Party craft activity

Paint-Your-Own Unicorn

Kids color and stack wooden layers into their own standing 3D unicorn to paint and take home. A standing wooden unicorn is a real keepsake piece, and the painting technique is a nice contrast to the headband-assembly table — kids get to genuinely make their own colors and design rather than just attaching pre-made pieces.

What you'll need

From around the house

  • A cup of water per child — for rinsing brushes
  • Newspaper or a plastic tablecloth — to protect the table

How to do it

  1. Cover the activity table with newspaper before kids sit down.
  2. Give each child their wood pieces and paint set.
  3. Let kids color each layer freely.
  4. Once dry, help stack the layers together to build the standing 3D unicorn.
  5. Set finished pieces aside somewhere flat to dry before stacking, if paint is still wet.
