Party craft activity

Make-Your-Own Wizard Wand

A hands-on craft that lets every guest leave with their own wand — fits naturally alongside the party's wizard-school theme. It gives every child a personal prop that works for photos and play for the rest of the party, without relying on any specific branded imagery.

What you'll need

From around the house

  • Newspaper or a plastic tablecloth — to protect the table
  • A cup of water per child — for rinsing brushes between colors

How to do it

  1. Cover the activity table with newspaper or a plastic cloth before kids sit down.
  2. Give each child a wooden wand blank and a piece of air-dry clay.
  3. Let kids shape the clay around one end of the wand to form a handle or decorative tip.
  4. Once shaped, let kids paint their wand however they like.
  5. Set finished wands aside somewhere flat to dry before handling.

Adult supervision

Required — clay shaping and paint need adult oversight, especially for younger kids.

Safety note: The air-dry clay and paint are non-toxic but not edible. Smocks or old shirts are recommended since acrylic paint can stain clothing.
